A multi-million pound credit card fraud via compromises of credit card details operated through a system of purchase of “i-tunes gift certificates” produced by Apple Inc, through eBay accounts. This case centred upon transactions conducted via internet via a series of codes allowing purchase of certificates through the use of 7000 compromised credit cards over an 18 month period processed through Paypal and eBay accounting methods among various others and linked to the defendants various accounts. Magnetic strip read and write software was present and this was used to record and re write card details and transfer card details for use in the fraud conducted via the internet.

Prosecuted by the Crown Prosecution Service this case was heard at Manchester Crown Court. It was a large case charity fraud in which the defendant set up a childrens charity which alleged to provide holidays and days out for seriously ill children. The defendant fraudulently benefited from the charity using the monies received to improve and fund their own lifestyle. Furthermore the defendant claimed that there were celebrity patrons to the charity and used their details in correspondence and on their letterhead to demonstrate the legitimacy of the charity, when in fact the celebrities never agreed to become patrons of the charity.
